Your Macintosh’s internal clock loses, or gains, doesn’t it? I suppose your answer is YES. My Macintosh does too. In fact my Macintosh gains two seconds a day indeed. It is annoying to correct the internal clock every day. AJ times solves this problem. It corrects the internal clock every start-up, which consists of cdev part to measure the error and INIT part to correct it.
1) Drag AJ times into the System Folder. Choose AJ times in Control Panel. Set the current time in “First time of measure” window by the time signal of TV, radio, telephone service, etc. You can not adjust year, month nor day and must do that in General Control Panel before opening AJ times. Please read NOTE #2 below.
2) After several days, maybe at least two days, a week recommended, set “Next time or later” clock to the current time by the time signal. AJ times calculates the error and the gaining or losing error is showed in “Mod time” window. Again, you can’t adjust year, month nor day.
3) Restart Macintosh. It makes Macintosh ’s internal clock corrected. When re-measurement is needed, press “Clear” botton. (No Undo function supported. Be careful to do so.)
4) When you find your Macintosh is still gaining or losing, you can simply set again “Next time or later” clock. AJ times re-calculates the error. You don’t have to start measurement procedure from 1) again.
• As this INIT part doesn’t patch to the trap routine, it’s unlikely to cause a conflict with other INITs. (I’d like to say it’s never, but....)
• During measurement, do NOT try to correct the internal clock in General Control Panel, which causes wrong measurement result.
• AJ times is programed on the assumption that Macintosh loses or gains at certain seconds. It does not work properly if your Macintosh sometimes loses and sometimes gains.
• Error less than one second is rounded down and not corrected.
• It does nothing if Macintosh loses more than two seconds a hour. It is because of, perhaps, the internal battery is dying or your Macintosh is just out of order.
• AJ times is absolutely unrelated with AJ, Apple Japan, nor Japan Times. :-) AJ stands for AdJust.
• It is tested on SE/30 running on System 6.0.7. It seems to work under System 7.0. But it is not tested thoroughly.
